If you claim that you exist, is this claim falsifiable? How do we know that we exist? We know it because we simply do. No one taught us about our existence on planet earth, we exist because we exist. By breathing, thinking, waking up to a new day, taking up challenges-all these create evidence of our existence day by day. As long as our heart never fails to beat, we exist.
But the questions and debates about existence is still fierce and ongoing. Human’s claim of existence is complex. Some describe existence as a dream while others debate what existence is. There is no definite stand on existence. The statement ‘I exist’ is so broad or vague that it lacks propositional content. What exactly is existence? Is it having a physical body, or is it having an ability to think, or is it having consciousness?
To me, there are two types of ‘existence’. Firstly it is the physical and the second is mental. Some people may physically exist in the world, but they have no purpose in their life. To them, they are like empty shells without an existence.
For those who are able to live their life fruitfully, even when they no longer exist physically, their works and past deeds still exist in the minds of their descendants. Stories of famous historians are still told to us and taught during history lessons. An example would be: Confucian. His philosophy has been passed on for thousands of generations. Thus his existence still lingers in our minds till today.
My stand on the claim of me existing would be non-falsifiable. There is no fine line over what existence really means. How one interprets existence might not be so warmly received by another somewhere in the world.
Not being able to prove that a claim false doesn't mean that the stand is false, just that no observation we make could settle the question.
As for me, I will choose to live my life to its fullest until the day I meet death face to face, I might understand what existance is all about.
